Marsh Migration Observatory
Port Sonoma, CA
The Port Sonoma Marina is silting in despite numerous attempts to dredge the site. Given the pending threat of sea level rise and the growing pressure for urban expansion, the following regeneration plan proposes a 3,000 foot marshland buffer and levee for a new high density development. The improvement of existing marshlands will help attenuate wave energy while providing habitat for endangered species. Flooding in the region will most likely lead to greater nautical transportation. The new Petaluma Lighthouse will signal shallow lands, mark the 2014 edge and offer a new view of this changing landscape.
